After an absence from Europe since 2020, the Bytown Ski Club will return to Europe in 2023 with
an eight-day ski-snow board group package tour to Mayrhofen Austria, with Munich Germany as
our gateway airport. Our trip is timed to capture the best snow conditions in the Alps while
purposely avoiding any European holiday periods. Once again Bytown Ski Club is partnering with
Touringhouse Travel to organize this European ski trip from Friday January 27- Saturday
February 4, 2023. Nearly two-hundred members have joined our all -inclusive week-long group
trips over the past five years and 2023 promises to be another wonderful experience for both
new and returning members.
With Air Canada arrangements from Ottawa to Munich, the Mayrhofen region of Austria is a
short private coach ride from the Munich Airport. From your Hotel Gasthof Brucke in the centre
of the village, you can walk a short distance to the two main lifts that offers an abundance of
skiing and snow boarding without ever leaving the immediate town. However, that would be
passing up the opportunity to experience both the Hintertux Glacier ski area, Austria’s only year-
round ski resort and the Zillertal Arena, both only minutes away by the free ski bus or train. Your
Zillertal Super Ski Pass provides you access to over 530 kilometers of slopes and 180 lifts. These
factors should provide you with an unforgettable winter holiday in the mountains.
Mayrhofen, is famous for its insanely steep Harakiri piste and large snow park. Mayrhofen is one
of the top winter sports destinations in Austria for intermediate and expert skiers, yet also offers
plenty of gentle runs for beginners and families. For skiing and snowboarding, in Mayrhofen
itself, there are 142 km of slopes serviced by 44 lifts to transport the guests. The winter sports
area is situated between the elevations of 630 and 2,500 m.
Your accommodation is at the well appointed and located “Hotel Gasthof Brucke” which is only
a short walk to the lifts and with a free ski bus at the door to take you to out of town ski areas,
but it is located central to the quaint shopping area and other attractions that Mayrhofen offers
its guests. Touringhouse Travel has tentatively reserved a limited number of hotel rooms for our
group. Buffet breakfasts and 4 course dinners (with three choices each day) are included daily
for our group and gives us the opportunity to plan our ski days together over breakfast and
share our experiences together over dinner. The hotel hosts an amazing apres-ski party every
day with a DJ so you can shed your ski boots at the end of the day and join other members in
some Bytown camaraderie with people from around the world. All non-smoking rooms are
equipped with bath/shower, cable TV, safe, hairdryer balcony and free WIFI There is an in-hotel
spa for its guests including sauna. As previous group travellers know, Touringhouse Travel tries
to choose the charm of family-owned inns and this Hotel Gasthof Brucke is no exception having
been in the Schneeberger family for several generations.
If you are a non-skier/boarder joining our group trip, or wish to take a day off the slopes, there
are a plethora of local activities and sightseeing to keep you fully occupied. You could even take
the train from town to places such as Innsbruck or Salzburg for the day. In addition to package
price savings that excludes the ski pass, you may also have a discount for taking only the land
package if you have air points program. An important inclusion in your package is that you get
air transport of both a suitcase and ski/boot bag transported each direction, at no additional
cost. If you are alone, Touringhouse will try and connect you with another Bytown member of
the same gender to share a room, have company and avoid the single room supplement.
Touringhouse is offering some people the opportunity to extend their trip for a few days or
week at a nearby second resort. If you might be interested in joining a small group of other
Bytown members on this extension, contact Touringhouse for up-to-date details.
Leave all the planning and organization to Touringhouse Travel and enjoy the al inclusive
package that includes air, private coach transfer between Munich Airport and the Mayrhofen
hotel, buffet breakfast and dinners daily, a six-day ski all-area ski pass and the friendship of
other Bytown members.
For more details and registration information, visit the Touringhouse web site “ski trip tab” in
the top right at www.touringhouse.com, on or before August 2.
Reservations for the limited number of group package spots will be accepted on first-come basis
starting 8:30 a.m. on Monday August 8, 2022, by phoning Touringhouse at 613-741-2942 and/or
by submitting an application to Touringhouse by mail, delivery or email attachment.
Don Singer, the Bytown Ski Club trip leader, will be hosting a tour information meeting on
Tuesday September 6 at 6:30 – 7:30 pm at the Centrepoint meeting room (between the
Centrepointe Meridian theatre and library). However, previous Bytown ski trips have often been
filled to hotel and air capacity before trip information night, so if you are certain, do not wait too
long after registration opens to ensure your place. In the past we have been able to secure
additional air and hotel space to accommodate late registrants, but in this post Covid era, many
hotels and airlines are operating at capacity and that may not be an available option this year.

Greetings,
Good news, it looks like we will have a more regular ski season this year than last with fewer restrictions allowing us to resume operation. We will be offering bus day trips and a week long trip this year as well as SkiMax ticket sales which Tremblant is once again offering to ski clubs, Gatineau pass sales and more.
The ski club registration system is available to purchase club memberships and SkiMax tickets. More items to purchase or sign up for will be added as soon as they become available.
With the relaxing of Covid restrictions, we will be offering our day long bus trips again. The following trips are planned:
See the trips page for more details.
SkiMax ticket sales will be different this year in that the club will not be handing physical tickets anymore. For sales, you will be directed to the Tremblant online ticket sales website to purchase your tickets. You will be supplied with a discount code witch will give you a 38% savings over regular ticket prices if purchased before October 26th, and a 34% saving if purchased before December 7th. You will pickup your tickets at customer service at Tremblant instead of having to collect them from us at a distribution event, which should be much more convenient for you. In previous years we had to add credit card and e-commerce system surcharges to the ticket price, so as the club is not having to handle the money for the tickets this year means you get to save those charges for even more savings. One final note about the tickets: in previous years the tickets did not have any blackout days, unfortunately Tremblant has decided to have a Christmas blackout period for SkiMax this year, which will be from December 27 till Jan 02.
The Bytown Ski Club has returned from a hiatus and finalized plans to offer members a week-long ski and boarder group package to Big White British Columbia this coming winter. We have reserved thirty hotel and air spots for participants of this ski week from Saturday January 29 through Saturday February 5, 2022. Registration for this trip starts Sept 27th.
In light of the pandemic situation, skiers and the Club have opted to depart from the successful European offering of recent years to stay in Canada this winter. To promote the safety of our members, we will entertain registration for this group trip only from people that will have obtained their double vaccination prior to the trip departure.
For more details, please see our Trips page.
